Harbor LJ-UTC’s & Mira Mesa’s Purpose Statement
From our Core Values come commitments that guide our vision and strategy. Our Purpose Statement which summarizes our Core Values is:
“Following God Together to Make Our Communities Great Places To Live.”
By the Gospel God changes everything in our lives, takes hold of our hearts and leads us to live differently in this world.
Our Purpose Statement is based on three great focal points of the Bible:
1) The Great Commandment - Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
2) The Great Commission - Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…
3) The Cultural Mandate - Genesis 1:27-28 and Jeremiah 29:7
So God created man in his image. In the image of God he created them, male and female. And God blessed them. And God said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over every living thing.
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.
We endeavor to decide whether or not to do any ministry or activities at Harbor Mira Mesa by evaluating if it is in line with our Core Values and this Purpose Statement which summarizes our values.
From its inception, the vision of Harbor Presbyterian Church has been to ignite a church-planting movement that so fills the City of San Diego with the Gospel of Jesus Christ that the people of the city are changed in every dimension-spiritually, socially and culturally.
In order to achieve this vision, there are three important ingredients to our strategy:
1. Harbor is a Multi-Cultural Church
We are a church that celebrates and reflects the diversity of the city.
This enables us to:
- experience a greater richness in our worship
- develop an appreciation of different people and cultures
- effectively share our resources
- bear witness to the power of the Gospel
2. Harbor is a Multi-Congregational Church
We are one church composed of several congregations.
This enables us to:
- broaden our shared vision for the city
- offer "big church" ministries with a "small church" feel
- support and train church planters more effectively
3. Harbor is a Multi-Site Church
Each congregation meets in multiple locations.
This enables us to:
- reach more people with the Gospel
- increase opportunities for fellowship and ministry involvement
- reach different communities and different kinds of people
- maximize our resources (gifts, talents, and finances)
