Campus
Harbor Mira Mesa is committed to being a church for the campus. There are more than 20,000 students at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). To be a church for college students, we are pulling alongside the various campus groups at additional area colleges and universities (Miramar, Mesa, Grossmont, San Diego State (SDSU) and University of San Diego (USD) to help them reach their ministry goals. We know that the goal of campus ministries is to establish college students in a lifestyle of faith that will continue after graduation. To continue a lifestyle of faith, graduates need to know how to thrive in a church. Harbor offers campus ministry leaders help in getting students plugged into a church, Harbor or other churches, while in college. When they graduate they can then say, “I have experience participating in a church as an adult; I have served in a meaningful role in the church as an adult; and I have learned to use my gifts in the body."
To assist campus leaders, we offer these resources to campus ministry groups:
- Spiritual Leadership Training The need for talented, vigorous leaders in church, in youth ministry, in families and at the workplace cannot be overemphasized. Spiritual leadership originates in the Good News of God’s love for us as we encounter the Person and work of Jesus, and we are then guided by the Holy Spirit. This class, based upon J. Oswald Sanders’ book Spiritual Leadership, will feature readings and discussion, led by Rob Burke, Martin Cachero and Eric Trieu. This is one of our School of Discipleship classes offered on Sunday mornings at 9:20. For more information, contact Rob Burke at .
- Financial Peace University We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God’s ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage you money, spend and save wisely, and much more! Our next class will be starting in January 2013. For more information, contact Tom Lazet at or Carol Guinn at .
- Opportunities to serve on Ministry Teams. If students are to go on in a lifestyle of faith after graduation, learning to serve in a church as a young adult is key. Contact Bob Klein, Karen Klein or Rob Burke
